Sarah Tyacke CB, Hon. D.Litt., FSA, FRHistS, Distinguished Senior Fellow, School of Advanced Study, University of London. She is also a former president of the Hakluyt Society, and now chair of the JB Harley Trustees https://www.maphistory.info/harleytrust.html who give grants for research in the History of Cartography. She is a director of the map history journal Imago Mundi. She was formerly Keeper of Public Records and Chief Executive of the National Archives of England and Wales 1992-2005.
In 2010 Sarah was awarded the British Academy’s President’s Medal, “for signal service to the cause of the humanities and social sciences”. Since then she has chaired the ICA’s Fund for the International Development of Archives (FIDA), which assists colleagues in low-resourced places to improve their own archives and records management, and she was appointed a Fellow of the ICA in 2016 in which capacity she continues to serve the community of archivists and records managers. She continues to chair the Trustees of the International Records Management Trust (IRMT).
She is also a founder Trustee of The Willison Trust which supports the history of the book, relating to all types of texts, including manuscripts and maps and, of course, research in the archives for relevant material.
